About Us

Our congregation is an organized congregation of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.(WELS)

Our present building was dedicated in 1986, but the congregation has existed in one form or another since November of 1972. It started as a Hispanic Mission. On August 4, 1973, Carl W. Leyrer was installed as the first pastor of Iglesia Luterana Getsemani. All services were conducted in Spanish and in the late 1970's English services were introduced along with the Spanish. By 1978 virtually all of the worship services were in English and in May of 1981, the name of the church was translated to Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

In November of 1977 the present Holly Road site of the church was purchased. The parsonage was built on the property the following year. The go ahead for building our new facility came in the summer of 1982 and ground was broken on Reformation Day in 1984. The work began in March the following year and in November of 1986 was the final dedication. To God be the glory!

Gethsemane Lutheran is more than a building and set of programs. We are a body of Christian believers who share a new life in Christ and seek to proclaim and live it in our daily lives.

Jesus is our Savior, He is our Lord, our Indweller, and our Head. He told His followers to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19) This then is our purpose for living and worshiping as we do.
